Types of Study Permits

Eligibility Requirements

Letter of Acceptance

Valid acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada.

Financial Proof

Proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition fees, living expenses, and return transportation.

Language Proficiency

IELTS, TOEFL, or other accepted language test scores (varies by institution).

Medical Examination

Medical exam may be required depending on your country of residence and length of stay.

Student Direct Stream (SDS)

The Student Direct Stream (SDS) provides faster processing for study permit applications from eligible countries. To qualify for SDS, you must:

  • Be a legal resident of an eligible country
  • Have an acceptance letter from a post-secondary DLI
  • Pay tuition fees for the first year
  • Purchase a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of $10,000
  • Complete a medical exam upfront (if required)
  • Have IELTS score of 6.0 or higher in each skill

Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

After completing your studies in Canada, you may be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), which allows you to:

  • Work in Canada for up to 3 years (depending on program length)
  • Gain valuable Canadian work experience
  • Apply for Canadian Permanent Residency through Express Entry or PNP
  • Build your career in Canada
